The Kahawa Law Courts has today released twelve Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers domiciled under the defunct Special Services Unit (SSU) on a Sh500,000 personal bond pending further determination in January 2023.
While granting the personal bond, Kahawa Law Courts Chief Magistrate Diana kavedza Mochache ordered the accused to strictly follow directives issued by the investigating officers when need be.
The defense team led by lawyers Danstan Omari and Martina Swiga welcomed the decision by the court saying the accused were right to ask to be with their families for the festive season.
The officers are on trial in connection to the alleged abduction, disappearance and suspected murder of a Kenyan taxi driver and two Indian nationals in July this year.
Some human skeletons and clothes suspected to belong to the three missing persons were found dumped in the Aberdares forest.
Detectives from the Internal Affairs Unit also presented to court four other SSU officers who were arrested on Wednesday to join the nine who had spent 42 days in custody.
They are also required to undergo DNA testing at the Kenyatta National Hospital since the DCI forensic Laboratory was not operational but they declined to have the samples taken by force.
The Magistrate warned that failure on the side of the accused to obey the orders would attract revocation of personal bond. She determined that the same guidelines shall apply to the 4 officers also to be set free on bond.
