President William Ruto has warned the opposition against violent demonstrations as they seek opinions from the public on push to ouster the four electoral body commissioners.
Azimio One Kenya Coalition leader Raila Odinga has planned public consultation foras across the country wand will kick off with inaugural rally at Kamukunji Grounds on Wednesday in Nairobi and will be replicated by similar rallies across the country.
President Ruto urged Raila to play his oversight role but added that street demonstrations may have a negative impact on Kenya’s economy.
“I want to tell my brothers in the opposition, criticise whenever you want, but let us keep our country peaceful.” Ruto said.
Separately on his Twitter handle, the president disparaged planned actions by the opposition.
“The lords of impunity, who destroyed oversight institutions using the handshake fraud, should allow parliament to hold rogue officials who put the nation in danger by subverting the democratic will of the people to be held to account.” The president posted.
The four embattled commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) being pushed out include; Cherera Four, are vice-chairperson Juliana Cherera, Francis Mathenge, Irene Masit and Justus Nyang’aya.
The government will focus on agricultural transformation to drive the country’s economic recovery.
President William Ruto said the adoption of technology and innovation is the catalyst for this transformation.
“Famers who embrace technology can enhance their productivity and boost their earnings.”
The president spoke earlier today while opening the Twiga Foods Distribution Centre in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
Twiga is a technology driven company that connects farmers and retailer.
“The success of this model shows that there is room for growth in the market and that farmers can be organised to deliver bigger volumes. Empowering farmers is a path to beating poverty and ending inequality in our country.” The president said.
In addition, Ruto said the launch of the Hustler Fund will expand financial inclusion and de-risk agriculture to attract younger farmers.
He said the Government will keep facilitating better market access for small entrepreneurs.
