A woman has today been arrested trying to sneak in rolls of bhang, cigarettes and a match box to a male detainee.
The 30-year-old woman, Lucy Muthoni attempted to deliver the drugs to a male prisoner, Stephen Nyambuto at Gilgil police station.
According to a police report, the lady requested two police officers on duty to allow her give a loaf of bread and a cup of tea to a male detainee.
She said that the man was her husband, who had been arrested on November 25 for housebreaking and stealing.
When the officers started inspecting the food she had brought as procedure, the woman panicked and became agitated.
This prompted the officers to have a keen interest on her package as they took the loaf of bread and noticed that the seal had been tampered with.
The police realised that top most slices of the bread were intact but on the inside of the middle slices a hole had been drilled where 5 rolls of cannabis sativa, 5 sticks of uncustomed cigarettes and a match box were hidden
After realising the scheme to hide the drugs inside the bread, the woman pleaded with the officers to free her promising to pay them Sh2,000 if they let the matter slide.
Ignoring her plead, the police arrested the woman immediately and with further search 80 rolls of bhang were found hidden in her undergarments.
The station’s OCS and DCI Gilgil personnel visited the scene and necessary action was taken as all recoveries were kept as exhibits.
The woman is expected to be arraigned tomorrow.
