Uganda continue to bare the ravages of the deadly Ebola virus as more deaths and new cases of Ebola continue to be reported in a t least six districts even as President Yoweri Museveni moved to reassure tourists of safety in the country.
Tourists have canceling their trips to Uganda and some postponing international conferences and meetings to other countries due to the outbreak.
“I would like to reassure the international community, tourists and conference organisers and the entire Ugandan population that the government has put in place measures to control the outbreak,” he stated.
He further noted that the virus outbreak is localised to only 6 out of the 146 districts.
“The government is doing all it takes to control this epidemic and avoid exportation outside Uganda,” he added.
Additionally, the list of Ebola contacts has been availed to the Immigration Authorities to prevent them from international travel.
In line with the measures, Museveni also observed that screening has been enforced at the airport and land border points of entry for temperature, symptoms and history of contact.
Museveni also observed that Ebola cases had reduced in two districts namely Mubende and Kasanda where the virus had hit severely.
The confirmed cases in the country now stand at 141, with 55 deaths, 73 recoveries and 13 admitted at the Ebola Treatment Units (ETUs).
