Police in Migori county have arrested a man posing as a woman.
According to a police report, Jared Opiyo was passing by the station when one officer noticed he was looking suspiciously masculine.
After being summoned, he identified himself as Sheila Bichange and afterwards upon interrogation, owned up and produced a national Identification Card with a picture that identified himself as Jared Opiyo.
Opiyo alleged to be an employee of a sony sugar company and also owned a hotel within Awendo Township.
He said that he harboured feminine feelings since childhood hence his choice of attire.
According to the report, word went round Awendo that the person who has been behind the recent spate of serial killings in the area and is said to sometimes disguise himself as a woman had been arrested.
The information prompted the residents to storm Awendo police station and demanded that officers release the impersonator so that they subject him to mob injustice.
Police were forced to use teargas canisters to disperse the mob during the melee which led to the arrest of seven of the rioters.
However, no police officer or member of the public was injured during the incident.
