Immediate former President Uhuru Kenyatta has arrived in Kinshasa for the scheduled peace talks that are to take place in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Kenyatta is expected to meet DRC President Felix Tshisekedi alongside advisers to the chairperson of the East African Community Heads of State summit and Burundi President, Evariste Ndayishimiye who have also been invited to the talks.
“The former Kenyan president will also meet the presidents of the two chambers of parliament (National Assembly and Senate), members of the government, diplomats and representatives of local communities, leaders of religious denominations, traditional chiefs and women’s associations of the provinces of Ituri, North and South Kivu who have travelled from Kinshasa to meet and exchange with the team of President Uhuru on Monday,” a statement from President Tshisekedi’s office read.
The East African leaders are expected to talk with the communities and must favor dialogue to achieve peace after so many years of war.
The talks slated for two days come after the country deployed over 900 troops to DRC for a peace keeping mission in North Kivu region.
President William Ruto had handed the troops the national flag officially giving them a nod to proceed into DRC terming the mission as urgent and necessary.
