The Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome has clarified that he is not related to Chief Justice Martha Koome as alluded by many including the social media which has been awash with the insinuations.
During his swearing into office earlier today, Koome said it was only by a sheer coincidence that they share the name Koome.
He lightly said that he only shares a name with the CJs husband.
“Once in a while, I look at the social media and I know last night there was a talk, a discourse on the socials that Koome would be sworn in by Koome. A lot of issues but interesting discussions that CJ is about wife and husband, brother and a sister. Which I would say are good wished but that is not the case,” said Koome.
He added that: “I have no blood relationship with the CJ. It is only that she is married to one Koome Kiragu and I am Koome Nchebere, I thought I should make that clear to our fellow Kenyans.”
On her part the CJ also noted that the name Koome is widely used and that it is just as popular as names in other communities adding that the name is very popular because it means a clever person.
“Thank you for clarifying that you are not my blood relative… you should also have said that the name Koome is like Wafula, Anyango, Kamau. It is a name that is loved by many people. It means one who is very clever… so I hope the social media corrects that,” said the CJ.
