One of the police officers convicted in the murder of Willie Kimani has told the court to instruct he be given special diet for he is unable to eat Githeri.
Stephen Cheburet Morogohas today morning told Nairobi High Court judge Daniel Ogembo that the only food he is taking is Ugali and that’s what he has been surviving on.
He requested the court to order the prison authorities to provide him with milk.
“I am in prison and I am unable to eat. I prefer Ugali. I don’t eat when they cook Githeri. I plead with the court to instruct I be given cabbage, ugali and milk. (Mimi niko jela mwili imekataa chakula. Chakula yangu ni ugali. Wakipika githeri sikuli. Naomba koti iamrishe nipewe cabbage, ugali na maziwa.”) Chebureti said.
The case was being mentioned before Justice Ogembo since Justice Jessie Lessit is away on official duties until December.
Justice Ogembo has subsequently directed that Cheburet be presented to the prison clinical officer for a medical checkup over the diet issue.
He has also said the defence is at liberty to file any submissions they wish to before the sentencing.
In the case, cops Cheburet, Fredrick Leliman, Sylvia Wanjiku and police informer Peter Ngugi were found guilty of murder.
Judge Lessit found that the prosecution had proven that they killed Willie Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda and driver Joseph Muiruri.
