Kenyans have been allowed to travel to South Africa without visas for 90 days starting January 1, 2023 in an effort to promote trade and investments between the two countries.
President William Ruto and his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa agreed to lift visa requirements for Kenyan citizens to have visa free access to South Africa.
“From January 1, 2023, we will have a different regime thanks to your personal intervention in this matter and the wealth of experience that has been brought on board by your officials. Kenyans holding ordinary passports will be allowed to enter South Africa on a visa-free regime of up to 90 days per calendar year,” President Ruto stated.
The two Heads of State addressed a joint press briefing shortly after the bilateral talks where three Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) and one agreement were signed.
The two countries signed cooperation agreements in the field of Correctional Services; Housing and Human Settlement; Kenya School of Government and the National School of Government; and an agreement on Audio Visual Co-Production.
The housing partnership deal will boost the government’s affordable housing plan that seeks to make Kenyans homeowners.
