The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) championing for a nation free from alcohol and drug abuse has launched the thirtieth meeting of heads of national drug law enforcement agencies in Africa 2022 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, today.
The opening ceremony graced by the Principal Secretary in the State Department of Interior and Citizen Services in the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of the National, Dr. Karanja Kibicho said that countries struggle to address the Drug Trafficking hence the essence of the meeting to help counter the issue.
“As a country, Kenya has put in place an approach to challenges of drug abuse. Some strategies employed include, treatment and rehabilitation of persons with substance abuse disorders,” revealed Dr. Karanja Kibicho.
According to Victor Okioma, the Chief Executive Officer NACADA, the day one of the four –day event had key topical issues discussed anchored on the current situations with respect to regional and sub-regional cooperation in addressing and countering drug problems.
“We have discussed on the Implementation of the recommendation adopted by the 29th meeting of HONLEA –Africa,” observed Okioma.
The said sensitisations aim to create awareness on how to go about preventing alcohol and drug use at home, school, workplace and the community.
In order to address alcohol and drug use and its implications, NACADA organizes sensitisations and structured training targeting families, workplaces, schools, and communities.
For the next four days, law enforcement experts will discuss on how to address and counter the world drug problem in the continent with a follow-up on the implementation at the national, regional and international levels of all commitments, as reflected in the Ministerial Declaration of 2019 set to be discussed and addressed.
The 30th Edition of Heads of National Drug Law Enforcement Agencies in Africa is set to lapse on Friday.
