Resila Onyango appointed new police spokesperson
The National Police Service (NPS) has appointed Dr. Resila Atieno Onyango as the new spokesperson taking over from Bruno Shioso who now has been promoted to head the National Police Training Campus in Kiganjo taking from incoming Police Inspector General Japheth Koome.
She writes history as the first ever female police officer with a doctorate degree to be appointed spokesperson also the first police officer to achieve the same.
Resila becomes the second woman to ascend to the spokesperson position at the Police Service after Zipporah Mboroki who served in 2014.
She obtained her Doctorate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, USA in 2021 while serving as the Deputy Director of Planning at the Office of the IG of Police.
In the NPS shakeup, Deputy commandant at the college Philip Ndolo was recalled to the police headquarters in the changes announced by acting IG Noor Gabow.
Central Regional Police Commander (RPC) Manase Musyoka was moved to Nairobi region in the same capacity.
Musyoka replaced James Mugera who retired after attaining mandatory retirement age.
The new Central RPC will be Lydia Ligami while Paul Langat was posted to Western as the RPC to replace Peris Muthoni who retired from the service.
Gabow also named Catherine Mugwe as the staff officer training at police headquarters.
Police believe the changes will help in implementing delivery with the acting IG terming the changes normal aimed at boosting operations in the affected areas.
