Inspector General of Police nominee Japhet Koome is expected to appear before a joint vetting panel of senators and Members of the National Assembly tomorrow for approval.
Koome will appear before the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Affairs and the Senate Standing Committee on National Security, Defense, and Foreign Affairs at Parliament Buildings.
He was nominated by President William Ruto to replace Hillary Mutyambai who took terminal leave due to ill health.
Koome is expected to present before the committee copies of his identity card, academic and professional certificates, and other relevant testimonials.
He will also present clearances from Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), and any credit reference bureaus with compliance and clearance certificates.
He will be faced with submissions from members of the public as the joint team considers his suitability to the critical security docket.
According to the Public Appointments Act 2011, the committee shall have 28 days to either approve or reject the nominee.
Koome, before his nomination was Commandant of the National Police Service College, Kiganjo.
Koome will be the fourth IG under the Constitution of Kenya; If approved by both the joint committee and the bi-cameral Parliament.
