Several aspirants have aligned for the succession of former Garissa Township Member of Parliament (MP) Aden Duale, ex- Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and ex- Kandara MP, Alice Wahome.
Following the announcement of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula declaring the mentioned MP seats vacant and Senate speaker Amason Kingi who announced the Elgeyo Marakwet senatorial seat vacant, most aspirants eyeing for the seats are those who lost to the three during the August 9 elections.
“It is notified for the general information of the public that the seat of the Member of the National Assembly for Kandara Constituency elected under Article 97(1)(a) of the Constitution has become vacant with effect from October 26, 2022,” Wetangula gazetted.
“It is notified for the general information of the public that pursuant to Article 103 (1) (d) of the Constitution of Kenya, the seat of the Member of the Senate elected under Article 98 (1) (b) of the Constitution became vacant, with effect from the 26th October, 2022,” Kingi gazetted.
President William Ruto appointed Aden Duale Cabinet Secretary Defense, Kipchumba Murkomen CS Roads, Alice Wahome CS Water and Sanitation.
Those eyeing the Elgeyo Marakwet Senatorial seat include former Marakwet West MP William Kisang and former county assembly Speaker Albert Kochei, Dan Ruto, Daniel Kipkemoi, George Bett, Abigael Jerotich, Gladys Maiyo, Jesca Kiplagat, Florence Jepkosgei, Anne Cheboi, lawyers Hillary Cheboi and Kiprop Marrirmoi among others.
In Garissa Township, Abdi Nasir Dolal of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and Abdullahi Gabane (UPIA) have declared interest to succeed Duale.
At least 22 aspirants have showed interest for the Kandara MP seat who among them include Chege Njuguna who in a close battle lost to Wahome in the recent held elections, Ithiru MCA Kibe wa Sally, Waithira Muithirania, Lucy Ngugi, Andrew Kahenya.
