The National Assembly has approved all twenty-four Cabinet nominees unveiled by President William Ruto on September 27, 2022.
This is even after the National Assembly’s Committee had earlier rejected Peninah Malonza, who is the Cabinet Secretary nominee for the Tourism ministry.
The 21-member select committee had rejected her nomination, citing her unsuitability and technical understanding of the needs and requirements of the crucial Tourism ministry.
“She lacked the requisite abilities and professional experience to be approved for appointment to the Office of the Cabinet Secretary,” read the report tabled in the National Assembly.
However, Malonza’s nomination was today approved by the entire membership of the National Assembly.
At the same time, the MPs also approved Cabinet Secretary nominees for Public Service and Gender Aisha Jumwa and Mithika Linturi (Agriculture).
Eight out of the 21 select committee MPs had rejected the nominations of Jumwa and Linturi over integrity concerns.
Jumwa’s nomination on the other hand, was overlooked owing to a pending court case in which she is accused of fatally shooting a man in 2019 during the Ganda Ward by-election.
According to the Committee, Jumwa’s claims that she does not own a gun or a firearm license was not satisfactory to prove her innocence and earn her a ministerial docket.
