Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has ordered Multichoice Limited, a South African Pay Tv Network, to discontinue some of their children programmes which glorify homesexual behaviour in Kenya.
Speaking yesterday at their headquarters in Nairobi, KFCB Chief Executive Officer, Ezekiel Mutua said that DSTV and GOTV are currently airing six programs namely Loud House, The legend of Korra,Hey Arnold ,Clarence,Steven Universe and Adventure Time at Nickelodeon Channels and Cartoon Networks which are deliberately designed to corrupt children moral judgement regarding the institution of family.
“We have been receiving public complaints about this programs .We conducted a thorough investigations and it is true that the programs are rated as suitable for children yet they contain elements that are intended to introduce children to deviant behaviours ,”he said.
He said that these programmes are laced with retrogressive and bizarre messages intended to promote Lesbian,Gay,Bisexual and Transgender agenda in the country. Further the programmes bear misleading age suitability ratings that are inconsistent with KFCB content classification guidelines and the laws of Kenya.
“We have written to the company to immediately discontinue the broadcasting ,distribution or exhibition of the programmes.We hope that they will heed our request as we pursue measures to ensure chidden are protected from harmful content,”he said.
He revealed that as a way of ensuring children safety has been achieved the board has intensified public relation efforts to create awareness on responsible consumption of media content by sharing their concerns with the government agencies and religious institutions and soliciting their support to ensure that children do not access such inappropriate content.
“I urge all parents to be more vigilant in monitoring the content their children watch on pay television and inform the board of any unpalatable content because we cannot allow homesexual content to be accessed by children in Kenya,”he adds.
