The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has issued a statement saying that it would be pressing charges against the Turkana governor over the alleged forgery of academic documents.
EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak, while making remarks on the matter, stated that the DPP had given the Integrity commission a go ahead on pursuing the case.
“Following investigations, EACC established that both the governor’s Degree and Diploma certificates were fake thus rendering the governor liable to criminal prosecution,” said EACC in a statement released to the press.
While addressing Members of Parliament at the induction programme held at safari Park Hotel, Mbarak stated that there was one serving governor facing an imminent arrest for violation of the law.
According to the EACC, Jeremiah Ekamais Lomorukai is accused of giving false information to EACC and presenting falsified documents contrary to Section 353 of the Penal Code.
The governor is said to have fraudulently acquired a University Degree and Diploma in Counselling to facilitate his clearance from the IEBC to contest for the county’s seat.
“EACC will arrest the governor and present him before the Court to face charges as it continues with investigations of similar matters relating to forgery of academic certificates,” the Commission said.
The former Loima Member of Parliament is accused of forging his diploma and degree certificate that he purported to have acquired from the Kenya Methodist University (KeMU).
He is among 241 candidate’s flagged by The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission for integrity issues.
Ekamais is expected to be questioned on how he acquired the academic documents before facing charges of falsifying documents and forgery.
The Integrity commission asserted that it will fight till the end to ensure that investigations are conducted successfully.
