President Uhuru Kenyatta today said the Jubilee Government will not allow West Pokot to lag behind in growth and development, promising construction of a key road to start in July.

The President, who was accompanied by Deputy President William Ruto, said plans are at an advanced stage to tarmack the 80 kilometre Makutano – Konyao road beginning July to open up the county for rapid development.

“We believe that our investment in infrastructure in this county will accelerate economic growth, creating jobs for the young people,” President Kenyatta said.

The President spoke at Makutano in West Pokot County on Tuesday where he addressed one of the largest gathering to be witnessed in the county.

President Kenyatta rallied the residents to give him and his Jubilee team a second term to build on the transformational foundation he has laid down in the last four years.

He assured that his administration will continue implementing policies that will guarantee equity, citing devolution entrenched under his watch as one of the successes of the Jubilee Government.

“I am proud that, as Jubilee, we have successfully implemented devolution that has proved to be a catalyst to development, ensuring equity across the country and transforming the lives of Kenyans,” the President said.

The Head of State promised to continue working closely with West Pokot leaders for the benefit of the residents.

He commended the county for embracing the ideals of devolution fully, noting that it is the first devolved unity to build a medical training centre.

President Kenyatta emphasized that he is determined to ensure that residents of West Pokot County have equal access to opportunities that will lift their lives as Kenyans living in other parts of the country.

Deputy President Ruto said Jubilee was the only party, which was committed to the transformative agenda through initiation of projects that have direct impact on the lives of Kenyans.

The Deputy President told residents in the area to vote for development conscious leaders who had their interest at heart.

“Do not vote for someone because he or she has given you Kshs 200. How many days will this amount last? Vote for leaders who have plans to transform your lives and these are the Jubilee ones,” said the Deputy President.

Present were West Governors Simon Kachapin (West Pokot), Alex Tolgos (Elgeyo Marakwet), Jackson Mandago (Uasin-Gishu), MPs Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo Marakwet), Samuel Moroto (Kapenguria), David Pkosing (Pokot South), Oscar Sudi (Kapsaret), Aaron Cheruiyot (Kericho) and deputy governor Titus Lotee (West Pokot).
