Beleaguered Football Kenya Federation president Nicholas ‘Nick’ Mwendwa has controversially announced his return back to office as the president of the federation.
Through a letter in our possession, Mwendwa said charges against had been dropped and he was back in office as FKF boss.
Mwendwa said the charges he was facing have since been dropped by the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP)
“Following the withdrawal of charges by the Directorate of Public Prosecution on July 8, 2022, I hereby wish to inform you good office that I have resumed my duties as the FKF president with immediate effect,” reads the letter addressed to FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
Mwendwa has been out of office since November 2021 when he delegated his duties to FKF vice president Doris Petra, as he faced graft charges.
He was accused of Sh38million graft case.
“Without prejudice to any investigations by national authorities or other judicial bodies, the Fifa Council also decided to suspend the Football Kenya Federation and the Zimbabwe Football Association with immediate effect due to undue interference by a third party,” Infantino said.
After failing to provide any witnesses, the government withdrew all charges against the self-reinstated FKF boss through the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Mwendwa has been out of office since November 2021 when he delegated his duties to FKF vice president Doris Petra, as he faced graft charges.
His decision to step aside to allow conclusion of investigations came after he lost his bid to stop his prosecution in a Sh38 million graft case.
FIFA council further stated that the suspension will be lifted immediately and as soon as the necessary prerequisites were met.
