The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has urged victorious candidates in Kenyan elections to maintain peace with their opponents.
Samuel Kobia, NCIC Chairman, has called on the two leaders vying for the highest position in the country to find a way of working together even after the election results are announced.
Kobia noted that the elections were peaceful and each individual’s contribution matters in the peace process in the country.
“We urge the winner to reach across the divide to make peace and forge a way forward. We ask for the runner-up to be dignified and treated with decorum,” Kobia said in a meeting to the press.
He also complimented leaders who had conceded defeat, asserting that others should follow the same route.
“We commend leaders who have accepted defeat peacefully and those who are seeking legal redress to do so peacefully, he urged.”
The body called on Kenyans to desist from abusing each other, especially on social media as this may have a detrimental effect on peace.
Kobia said the country needs each and every one of us and the nation should remain harmonious despite our political affiliations.
