Police in Mombasa are investigating the mystery behind the death of a female university student whose body was recovered hanged on a “kanga” at a guest house in Kisimani area of Mombasa county.
The second year Bachelor of Purchasing and Supplies student at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) Taita Taveta campus had booked the room with her boyfriend.
The body was found hanging from the bed of Las Vegas guest house.
Police said that a manhunt of the boy friend has been launched.
Kisauni Deputy OCPD Walter Abondo said the body of the 23 year old Doris Kagendo, a mother of two was found by the hotel attendant who had noticed became suspicious after the student delayed to check out.
Abondo said that prior to her death Kagendo had booked the room alongside a man known as Onesmus Kougi who has since gone into hiding.
“According to our investigations the man is said to have booked into the guest house on June 2 and spent the night with the girl. However, the man never came back to the guest house the following day and the young lady is said to have spent the night alone. The man sent the guest management money for accommodation through Mpesa,” said the police boss.
He said that an inquest file on the circumstances surrounding the death has already been opened even as he cautioned young women against getting involved into love affairs with older men who seemed to take advantage of the young women.
