The Assumption of Office Committee headed by the Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua has assured smooth transfer of power once the electoral agency declares final results.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Office of the President today, Kinyua said the committee will also ensure seamless handover process including security for President-elect.
“The committee’s core mandate is to facilitate a smooth transition from the current administration to the incoming administration. Substantively, the mandate of the committee will be triggered once the IEBC formally announces the results of the August 9 general election and declares President Elect,” Kinyua said.
Additionally, the committee will coordinate the briefing of the President Elect by relevant public officers ahead of the swearing in.
“The committee will also organise for the necessary facilities and personnel for the President Elect, facilitate communication between the outgoing President and President Elect as well as prepare the program of the swearing in ceremony,” said Kinyua, who chairs the Assumption to the Office of the President Committee.
They spoke after the committee held its inaugural meeting today.
The committee is established pursuant to the Assumption of the Office of the President Act 21 of 2012 and Article 141 of the 2010 Constitution.
The Act provides for the procedure and ceremony for the assumption of the office of the president by the president-elect in accordance with article 141 of the constitution.
Members of the committee include Joseph Kinyua, Dr. Fred Matiangi, Karanja Kibicho, Hillary Mutyambai, Gen. Robert Kibochi, National Intelligence Service (NIS) director Philip Kameru, Judiciary’s Anne Amadi, State House Comptroller Kinuthia Mbugua, AG Kihara Kariuki, PS Jerome Ochieng, PS Julius Muia, PS Macharia Kamau, PS Julius Korir, PS Joe Okudo, and Solicitor General Ken Ogeto.
