Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati has urged Kenyans to be calm and not panic as they finalise the final tallying of the presidential votes.
Chebukati’s sentiments come in the wake of different results being displayed by a section of media houses.
However, according to Chebukati, ‘there is no need to panic’ as the commission prepares to announce the final results.
“There should be no panic about the differences we are seeing on the media screens. The results are from the same portal; the approach is different, we hope at the end of tallying the results in different media houses will look similar,” Chebukati said.
Chebukati further stated that the final announcement and declaration of the presidential results will be done by the National Returning Officer at the Bomas of Kenya.
He further urged Kenyans, the media, and election observers to access the August 9 presidential election results from a public portal that the commission has provided.
Speaking to the press yesterday afternoon, a day after Kenyans took to the polls to elect their leaders, Chebukati encouraged all relevant stakeholders to interact with the presidential results (in form of Form 34As) that the commission has provided on their website.
He also took the opportunity to urge Kenyans that the commission has in the meantime begun the validation of Form 34B returns against Forms 34A.
Chebukati stated that Returning Officers have begun arriving at the Bomas of Kenya.
He further indicated that the uploading of Form 34A is at 99.84 percent representing 46,156 polling stations.
He pointed out that Form 34A from 73 polling stations remains to be uploaded.
“Results including in areas which used manual voter registration have all transmitted all the form 34 As except two in Malava,” he stated.
