The government now wants a renewed strategy on the fight against HIV as high infection rates among the country’s young people trigger fresh concerns.
This is despite various awareness programmes. For instance, HIV/Aids data from 2015 reveals that youth account for 55 per cent of all new infections which stand at 78,000 annually.
Health Principal Secretary Julius Korir this week called on the redesigning of communication strategy to take into consideration the youth and adolescents.
On how they communicate, perceive information they receive and who their role models are. Data with the National Aids Control Council (NACC) shows that the number of new infections among young adults aged between 15 and 24 years plummeted in 2016.
NACC executive officer Dr Nduku Kilonzo raised alarm over the number of young adults who contracted the virus last year.
