Sate House event’s company, Wanderjoy Party World Limited made the 54th Madarak Day celebrations at Kabiruini Grounds in Nyeri real with meticulous prior arrangements marked by thrilling fanfare. President Uhuru Kenyatta arrived at 11.15am.
Members of the Kenya Defence Forces had moved to position in readiness for the arrival of their Commander-in-Chief. With the stage and tents erected with sitting capacity of up to 30,000 people set by Wanderjoy Party World, presidential podium stood out magnificently.
The close to 40,000 crowd was charmed by a series of traditional dances echoing patriotic messages. The well executed arrangements by the events firm with colourful displays, songs and dances that rallied Kenyans to live in harmony.
President Kenyatta led Kenyans in the commemorating the day that Kenya gained internal self-rule in 1964 from British colonialists with his clear message underscoring the need for peaceful presidential polls in August.
The celebrations in Nyeri are significantly amplified by the fact that the area is known as the land of Mau Mau freedom fighters who played critical role in the struggle more than half a century ago.
The grounds had been sealed off but opened form 5.30am on the D-Day. The attendants were subjected to thorough security screening and hawking within the venue has been prohibited.
The populous central region will host the national celebrations for the first time in Kenya’s history. This is the third national event to be held outside Nairobi following last year’s Madaraka fete held in Nakuru at the Afraha Stadium and Mashujaa Day held in Machakos.
