Kanu leaders from West Pokot County have faulted the government for failing to implement corporate social responsibility in the county.

The leaders said most of the major projects that the government has funded in the region residents have not benefited from the services and yet the funds to carry out the projects have been set aside.

Speaking  at Kapsait Secondary school, West Pokot Senator John Lonyangapuo and chairman civil aviation authority Samuel Poghisio gave an example of Muruny – Siyoi water project, where Sh280 million has been set aside for corporate social responsibility.

Lonyangauo wondered why there is no single project being implement in the region using the funds.

He said the funds are supposed to benefit residents of the county and the neigbouring marakwet county since the project is being implement in the two regions.

He said residents of Pokot south constituency have been oppressed since the government is carrying out major projects in the region and they have not benefited.

The senator also pointed out that residents have not benefited from social responsibility funds set aside in the ongoing construction of Makutano- Kabichbich- Kaptogen road.

Lonyangapuo stressed that the projects should run concurrently with the major projects to avoid the funds being misused.

The leaders also asked residents to turn out in large numbers and register as voters.

Poghisio said the community has a capacity to register over 300,000 voters if well mobilized.

“Right now we have shifted our focus to mobilizing residents to register as voters because we cannot drum up support for our party if we don’t have votes,” he said.

He also asked chiefs to ensure they distribute uncollected identity cards to owners before the registration process ends.
