Nairobi senator hopeful Edwin Sifuna has claimed that he will be the first one to flee the country if Kenya Kwanza flagbearer William Ruto succeeds in becoming the next president in August polls.
In an interview with local television, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party Secretary-General said he would go into exile if the Kenya Kwanza alliance forms the next government.
According to Sifuna, the deputy president is too temperamental to be president.
“Should William Ruto be elected the next president of this great republic, I will look for a country abroad to go and hide because he is too temperamental to be the next president,” Sifuna said.
While citing the recent remarks in which Ruto said he almost slapped President Uhuru Kenyatta after the dramatic 2017 elections, Sifuna said he fears living in a country that is under Ruto.
“This man is very dangerous if he takes power. I promise you if Ruto becomes president, I Sifuna will have to hide in a foreign country because of his anger,” he said.
Sifuna’s sentiments come after Ruto justified the leaked audio of him claiming to have been in an altercation with his boss over the repeat heated 2017 elections.
Speaking in Meru Town on the last day of his Mt Kenya East tour, Ruto confirmed that he almost slapped President Uhuru Kenyatta after he hinted that he won’t take part in the repeat of the presidential election after the Supreme Court annulled their victory.
“There are people who are circulating some recordings claiming I forced Uhuru to run. Let me tell them that they don’t know how we made Uhuru Kenyatta the president. We are the ones who worked hard to ensure that we won,” Ruto said.
Political analyst Herman Manyora has since called out Ruto over a recording in which the presidential hopeful is heard addressing Kikuyu elders in a meeting held on Friday at his official Karen residence in Nairobi.
The leaked audio recording sheds light on the tense hours following the unprecedented judgment of the Supreme Court.
However, Manyora insists Ruto should remember that his association with the commander in chief made him sidestep the International Criminal Court (ICC) case and eventually become second in command.
“It his association with Uhuru that saved him from his case against humanity at the ICC and should detest from over glorifying his contribution in the jubilee administration, let Uhuru brag but not Ruto,” Manyora said.
According to the audio DP Ruto was locked in a heated argument that almost turned into a physical confrontation with his boss Kenyatta in the hours following the annulment of their 2017 election win.
