Government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna has today said the government plans to implement measures to reduce excessive speeding on the Nairobi Expressway.
Oguna stated the new enforcement methods to ensure adherence to the expressway’s 80km/h speed limit are already planned and will soon be put into place.
“The crashes are attributed largely to drivers ignoring speed limits. Nairobi Expressway, for instance, has a speed limit of 80kph and below which is clearly displayed,” Oguna said.
This comes after a car crash at the Mlolongo toll station last night that injured several individuals.
Oguna advised drivers to proceed cautiously when approaching the troubled toll booth as it has been partially closed to facilitate repairs.
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) noted that the driver who hit the toll booth and other nearby vehicles had approached the exit in blatant disregard of the posted speed restriction.
“The Nairobi Expressway is dedicated to offering a safe and dependable toll road service, and we want to reassure the public that we are taking steps to prevent such regrettable situations from happening. The roads administration recommended drivers to drive cautiously and refrain from excessive speeding.
