Some Runda residents are protesting the alleged misuse of over Sh700 million per year by their association.
According to the residents, Runda Residents Association’s managers have been accused of locking out specific members from its leadership positions.
This is after wrangles within the association revealed that the residents of the posh estate usually pay a total fee of Sh5,904 every month which comprises 10,300 members meaning that every month, members remit about Sh60,811,200 translating to Sh729,734,400 annually.
The money is usually paid by the residents to the Runda Water Limited (RWL), which they argue shouldn’t charge them for non-water-related expenses.
According to the residents, they have never been presented with an audit report of how the money, is being utilised by the Runda Association.
They also accuse the entity of enlisting them as members without their consent and charging them for non-water services through its registered water company, RWL, even though some of them get these services privately. These charges are added below the water bill on receipts issued by RWL.
One of the residents, Dr Rael Lubasi has accused the association of enlisting her as a member despite her sending a resignation letter from the association on January 17.
She quit and hired private security and rubbish collection services after being denied membership on the association’s committee.
However, RWL is still slapping her with bills for security, road maintenance, garbage collection, street maintenance, and water infrastructure rehabilitation.
According to other residents, many of them have suffered at the hands of the association but some property owners are afraid to confront its management.
