The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has appointed Florence Wairimu Muturi as the Chief Executive Officer taking over from Mercy Wambua.
Wairimu was picked from a list of ten applicants in what the LSK Council says was a transparent and competitive process.
She will serve for a period of three years with effect from June 2022 however, LSK President Eric Theuri said her tenure is renewable once upon satisfactory performance.
“She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in leadership and management,” Theuri said.
“The Council of the Law Society of Kenya congratulates Muturi on her appointment and wishes her the very best in her new role,” he added.
Prior to her appointment, Wairimu was the acting Secretary/CEO of the LSK since her appointment in January 2022.
She is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with over fifteen years’ experience, having been admitted to the Bar on 20th July, 2006.
Wairimu is a holder of a Bachelor Law Degree from Moi University, holds a Diploma in Human Resource Management and is a certified Public Secretary.
She has served the Law Society of Kenya since 2012 as a Program Officer in charge of Compliance and Ethics Department and subsequently as the Deputy Secretary/CEO, from 2016.
Wairimu succeeds Wambua who left office in January 2022 along with former LSK president Nelson Havi.
Wambua’s name came to the limelight during the push and pull between her and former LSK president Nelson Havi which saw her ousted as the society’s chief executive but got solace from the High Court which reinstated her.
A board decision to send her on compulsory leave was also nullified at the corridors of justice when High Court Justice Anthony Mrima reinstated her, saying she was legally in office.
The scuffles at the Law Society however came to an end in January 2022 when the heads of the Law Society Regional branches took over the leadership of the lawyers’ body and Lawyer Linda Kiome Gitonga took over as president.
Havi on the other hand relinquished power to pay attention to his campaign for the Westlands Member of Parliament.
