A new twist has emerged in the brutal murders of four Kasarani friends after investigations revealed that one of them had conned the lover of his accomplice.

Fred Obare, Frank Obegi, Moses Nyachae, and Elijah Omeka disappeared from Kasarani in Nairobi before their badly mutilated bodies were found in Ngubi forest while one body was found in Magadi, Kajiado county.

It emerged yesterday that Omeka’s lover, Doreen Makena had complained of losing Sh100,000 to Obare through a fake promise to sell her an academic writing account.

In a statement recorded by detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Obare had agreed to refund Makena her money since he was not in a position of getting another academic writing account.

On Thursday it was however discovered that Obare left his home in Kasarani, for Ruiru where he was to broker yet another deal of selling another academic account.

However, Obare’s wife, Stephanie Mburu told detectives and family members that her husband had told her that he had been called by Makena and he was to join her in making a report at Kasarani Police Station that her husband was missing.

On the evening of the fateful day, Makena called Mburu asking her whether her husband had arrived home but he had not.

According to Obare’s brother Finley Mokaya, Obare’s phone was switched off moments after he spoke to Makena.

After Obare’s disappearance, Mburu also reportedly went missing and stopped cooperating with his family.

On the same day, Makena was also in constant communication with her husband Omeka who she had claimed had disappeared two days earlier.

Up to now, Makena is yet to record a statement with the police, about three days since the body of her husband and the other three were discovered. She argued that she is still in fear and doesn’t want to talk about what happened.

The case is different from yet another one involving cryptocurrency and in which Obare was arrested by detectives at Kasarani and handed over to Ruiru Police Station. He settled the matter last May.

Detectives revealed the mysterious lifestyle of the four murdered friends on the proceeds of money that largely remained unexplained.

A netizen by the name Babu Mmoja who seemed to be in contact with the deceased before the unfortunate incident revealed how Obegi scammed Kenyans their hard-earned money before moving to cryptocurrency.

The police are yet to release a statement regarding the incident and the progress of the investigations.
