The government of Kenya has apologised to Somalia over the presence of the flag of Somaliland at a diplomatic function.
This is after the Somali Embassy had accused Nairobi of violating its sovereignty by having the flag at the event.
The Embassy presented its compliments to Kenya over the violation of sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Somalia as per the international law.
This comes after the government of the Republic of Somaliland condemned actions taken by the Somalia Ambassador to Kenya HE Mohamed Ahmed Nur Tarsan, who abruptly walked out of a diplomatic lunch reception convened by President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi.
The ambassador to Kenya stormed out after Kenyatta invited Somaliland officials to the meeting.
Somaliland termed the action as hatred, demonstrating long-term enmity of Somalia towards the Republic of Somaliland and its people.
“The Government of the Republic of Somaliland is disappointed about the actions taken by the Ambassador of Somalia, who today abruptly walked out of a diplomatic lunch reception. the reception was held by the President of the Republic of Kenya H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta and was intended for the diplomatic community in Nairobi.
“The ambassador of Somalia left due to his views on the participation of the Republic of Somaliland at the event. Having said that, this clearly demonstrates the hatred, and long-term enmity of Somalia towards the Republic of Somaliland and its people,” part of the statement read by the Ministry of foreign affairs of Somaliland.
Somaliland stated that they aspire to live in peace and tranquillity with their neighbours including Somalia.
Tarsan is said to have been angered by the Kenyan government’s decision to invite Somaliland officials in the status of Ambassadors and placed the two flags of Somalia and Somaliland at State House.
