National Super Alliance co-principal Isaac Ruto has called on the national government to avail cheap maize at National Cereals and Produce Boards depots in line with addressing the cost of maize flour.
Ruto who is also the Bomet governor said the commodity should be made easily available for the traders and the people themselves to purchase arguing that this will lower the price of the flour.
He observed that the reduced prices of flour by the government will only benefit people living in towns while those at the villagers will have to shoulder the cost of maize which he said is still high.
Speaking on Sunday at Ng’esumin village in Bureti Sub-County when he presented Chama Cha Mashinani nomination certificate to Denis Rop who is eyeing Litein Ward seat on the party’s ticket, governor Ruto said the people at the villagers are not getting the reduce flour because they are only found in towns.
“People at the villagers are only seeing the lowered packets of maize on TV and hearing over the radio so we are asking the government to avail cheap maize for them here at the grassroots,” he added.
He also called on the government to lower prices of other essential commodities such as sugar saying the cost of the commodity has shot almost thrice. He also demanded National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) be reduced to Sh160 monthly from the current Sh500 per person.
He accused the Jubilee administration of failing to get its priorities right saying the problems facing was due to myopic nature of the ruling coalition.
Governor Ruto called on Kenyans to back Nasa in the 8th August polls saying Nasa government will strive to ensure the problems facing the ordinary person become a things of the past.
“Nasa government will ensure farm inputs are subsidized in a bid to produce enough food and will cap prices of the essential commodities. So we are appealing to Kenyans to support Nasa and their lives will be transformed,” said governor Ruto.
He was accompanied by Emily Kirui, who is an aspirant for Kericho Women Rep, Dominic Mutai who is eyeing the Belgut Parliamentary seat and several aspirants for county assemblies.
