The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has been ordered by the high court to freeze 18 valuable properties and seven motor vehicles owned by former Governor Ferdinand Waititu, his family members, and corporations affiliated with him.
This is pending the outcome of the Sh1.9 billion unexplained wealth case against the governor. Lady Justice Esther Maina barred “Waititu, wife Susan Ndungu, and their firms from selling, transferring, disposing of, wasting, or meddling in any other way with the assets and vehicles until the matter is resolved.”
The ruling comes after EACC filed a High Court suit to recover over Sh2 billion in unaccounted for assets allegedly obtained through corruption from the previous governor.
According to the commission, the suit is part of an ongoing effort to collect public funds from many governor’s suspected of amassing unlawful wealth.
