Former Gatanga legislator Peter Kenneth has ditched Jubilee and announced his candidature as an Independent for the Nairobi Governor’s seat.
Kenneth who lost in the party primaries to flamboyant Senator Mike Sonko said the exercise was riddled with massive irregularities.
He blamed undisclosed party honchos for his downfall, asserting that they were out to block him from the onset.
Kenneth also alleged that the voting process was compromised in favour of his political nemesis Sonko.
“We all know there were cases of ballot stuffing and non-members taking part in the nominations. In short, the elections were stolen,” he told journalists at his campaign headquarters in Nairobi on Friday.
He argued that complaints lodged at the party’s dispute tribunal were an indictment about just how flawed the exercise was.
Kenneth said he would name his running mate in a fortnight, to face with Sonko and the incumbent, Evans Kidero. His entry into the foray complicates matters for Sonko since Kenneth is able to wrestle votes from him, and give Kidero an edge.
He said Sonko is unfit and unable to run the city. “Senator Sonko lacks material skills to manage a city that controls 60 per cent of the Gros Domestic Product (GDP),” he said.
He said Sonko’s performance in the Senate has been dismal especially in over sighting Kidero.
Kenneth also lashed out at Kidero saying he has failed to deliver, with city getting dirtier.
“Very few Nairobians can show what Kidero has done despite being allocated more than Sh100 billion over the four years he was in office,” he said.
He urged his supporters to turn out in large numbers and vote for him to clinch the seat and serve them.
“I will address the problems city residents are grappling with. Nairobians’ only two options are choosing between the bad and the ugly. But now they have a mature leader with intact integrity and track record, ” he said.
