Azimio la Umoja running mate Martha Karua has pitched camp in Nyandarua ahead of a three-day campaign tour to popularise the Azimio brigade as well as Raila’s presidency.
Karua was well received by Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia among other leaders before kicking off her engagement with the area residents.
Since her nomination as Raila’s running mate, Karua has been vigorously campaigning in the vote-rich region as she seeks to woo the 8.6 million voters ahead of the fast-approaching August polls.
Karua immediately kicked off her Mt Kenya onslaught in her home county of Kirinyaga on May 17 in the afternoon.
On May 18, Karua campaigned in Meru County before proceeding to Tharaka-Nithi on May 19.
Late in the evening of the same day, she ventured into Embu County.
On May 20, she toured Nyeri and Murang’a counties before proceeding to Kiambu on May 21.
Karua arrived in the Nyandarua region after the National Prayer Breakfast that saw President Uhuru Kenyatta lead the nation in prayers ahead of the August polls.
The national prayer breakfast was held at the Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi.
Speaking during the National Prayer Breakfast, Karua called for sanity among politicians as the country gears toward the August elections.
Karua was representing her flag bearer Raila, and asked leaders to lessen political tensions in the country by exercising tolerance towards each other.
“We have heard the message from the clergy, and we remember that our constitution acknowledges the supremacy of God… We pray that after these prayers, moving forward, that our actions match our words,” Karua said.
In a breach of protocol, Karua was invited on stage by Deputy President William Ruto to make her remarks which saw the two political rivals embrace each other.
