The National Treasury has revealed that Sh600 million was spent in the just concluded Africities summit held in Kisumu
The report tabled before the National Assembly however, did not specify how the funds were spent on the five-day event, which brought together leaders and businessmen from around the world.
Treasury Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ukur Yatani is seeking the authority of Members of Parliament to regularize the Sh600 million spent to host the event.
This includes Sh200 million from the exchequer and Sh400 million from the Appropriation in Aid (AIA).
Yatani also seeks approval from Parliament to regularize the government’s expenditure of Sh63.9 billion under Article 223 of the Constitution.
The mini-budget also includes regulations on approved additional expenditures and allocations with government departments and ministries.
The budget also includes regulations on fuel stabilization, security, and drought-related expenditures.
The estimates include Sh8 billion for finishing ongoing road constructions, Sh1 billion for meter gauge railways, and Sh15.81 billion in a billion regulations to fund fuel subsidies.
Yatani is also seeking approval for Sh260 million sent for former President Mwai Kibaki’s state burial.
The CS is also seeking Sh1 billion in fertilizer subsidies, which would be in addition to the Sh5.73 billion approved in the Supplementary 1 budget.
The approval will result in an overall ministerial cumulative expenditure increase of 10.5 per cent over the current fiscal year.
