Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (Mmust) vice-chancellor Prof Fredrick Ochieng Otieno is expected to appear before the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) on Tuesday to shed light on claims of ethnic bias, unethical conduct and involvement in financial impropriety at the institution.
According to a copy of the summons from the anti-graft body signed by the Western region boss Ephantus Muteshi, the university don is wanted to explain complaints over alleged abuse of office and involvement in questionable financial dealings running into millions of shilling over the past four years.
Reliable reports indicate that the EACC had also fixed a date with six top stewards of the three unions with membership at the university today (Monday) to precede the scheduled date with Prof Otieno the following day ostensibly to gather more evidence to prosecute the case.
Kenya University Staff Union (KUSU) secretary Ronald Wamalwa confirmed yesterday that he alongside his chairman, UASU chapter chairman Prof Sammy Kubasu and his secretary as well the chairman and secretary of the Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Education and Allied Workers (Kudheiha) will appear today (Monday).
Prof Otieno was unavailable for comment over the past two days when we tried to reach him on his phone. The university public relations officer Winnie Malala also declined to comment on the matter.
