The FIFA World Cup Trophy tour ahead of the men’s World Cup 2022 in Qatar has arrived in Kenya today for a two-day tour.
The trophy was accompanied by former Brazilian playmaker Julio Belletti as it landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) today as Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed and Nairobi Governor Ann Kananu welcomed the world cup hero.
From there the trophy will then move to State House where it will be officially received by President Uhuru Kenyatta who will hoist it on behalf of Kenyans.
While on its tour, the FIFA World Cup will stop in 51 countries and territories, bringing Coca-Cola and FIFA one step closer to the goal of visiting each of FIFA’s 211 member associations by 2030.
The FIFA World Cup trophy tour kicked off with a first-stop event in Dubai, where former World Cup winners Iker Casillas and Kaká came together to send the original trophy on its journey around the world on May 12, 2022.
For the first time ever, the tour will visit all 32 countries that qualified for the FIFA World Cup, inspiring fans across the world through exclusive consumer experiences.
The trophy will be in Kenya on May 26th and 27th before moving to South Africa where football fans will get to view it from May 28th to 30th. It will then return to Tanzania, where it will be on display between May 31st and June 1st.
