Mount Kenya University is hosting its second International Conference on peace and security and social Enterprise starting today.
The event has attracted over 500 delegates, many of them attending physically and others virtually.
The conference that is taking place at MKU’s Mwai Kibaki convention Centre at its main campus in Thika where Peter Munya, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary is expected to deliver a speech and officially open the three-day event.
The conference has a list of lined up respective keynote speakers and panel discussions that seek to tackle diverse aspects of peace on the theme, “The role of Universities, public and private sector in peace building for socio-economic development.”
Dr. Vincent Gaitho, MKU pro-chancellor will welcome the participants to the event.
Rev. Dr. Samuel Kobia, The Chairman of the National Cohesion and Integrated Commission will deliver a keynote speech on “Peace advocacy in an Electioneering Period.”
Professor Bitange Ndemo, Kenyan’s ambasador to Belgium will share his view on “Cybercrime and epidemic of mobile phones addiction.”
Laban Anyiro, Vice Chancellor Daystar University will also deliver a keynote address on “Integration of citizenship, patriotism and national ethos in CBC for peace promotion and socio-economic developments
Carol Kariuku, the CEO of Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) will talk about “Mobilizing the private sector for peace through MKenya daima initiative.”
Processor Charles Ongondo development director (KICD) will discuss, “Values based education for socio-economic development in the region,”
Charles Muli, Celebrated Philanthropist and founder of Mully’s Children will share his views on “contribution of NGOs towards Peace building.
Professor Hubert Gijzen, UNESCO region director will deliver a speech on,” The role of UNESCO in supporting peace initiatives.” among others.
The peace conference has also scheduled a session to discuss “University student’s health and wellbeing in peace, security and social enterprise; lessons and experience from UNESCO 03plus project at Mount Kenya University.”
MKU will be hosting peace conferences every election year to inspire sober discourse in the country during political competitions.
