It was a well-done job for the Kenya national Deaflympics team in Brazil after it scooped first position in Africa and 10th globally which ended in a colourful closing ceremony on Sunday night here in Brazil.
Kenya scooped a total of twenty-four medals; five gold, seven silver and twenty-one bronze.
The performance in Brazil surpassed last editions held in Turkey back in 2017.
In 2017 Kenya managed to collect sixteen medals including five gold, five silver and five bronze.
It was also the first time Kenya scooped a bronze in golf by former Kenya Amateur Match play champion Isaac Ogolla Makokha.
Kenya also scooped silver in the Mixed 4×400 and women’s 4×400.
The country also won bronze in the men’s 4×400.
Additionally, it also maintained the ‘status quo’ in men’s 10000m, men’s 5000m and men’s 1500m which Kenya has dominated since 2013 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Peter Toroitich, Daniel Kiptum, David Kipkogei, Grancy Kendagor and Serah Wangari failed to take part in the marathon race.
The athletes termed the unfortunate incident due to miscommunication by the organisers.
However, the national team braced up to put up an exemplary show.
