A vagina is known by as many different names as its different owners… some refer to her as honeypot, lady parts, vajayjay, pussy, or just vagina. But the bottom-line is to keep her happy because, trust me you don’t want to see her angry.
Vaginas are a source of pleasure and she must be content to fulfill her various function. Ensure her environment is conducive. Vaginas are moderately acidic with a pH that ranges between between 3.8 and 5.0. When her pH is off, the key signs are odour and itchiness. Itching and a burning sensation and a feeling of swelling could mean you have a yeast infection. A srong fishy odour is usually a sign of bacterial vaginosis
Uncomfortable dryness, pain, a decrease in libido, various types of discharge, and odour may occur at many stages of life, from adolescence through menopause.
Speaking to The Informer, Kibera Human Development Project Medical Centre Director, Dr Stanley Simiyu notes that vaginas can and should be happy through ways that ensure good maintenance and care.
He shared some invaluable nuggets on how to keep your vagina happy:
Keep her free from infections: A happy vagina is free from infections and unwanted pregnancies. Practise protected sex by use of condoms, which can help in keeping sexually transmitted infections at bay. Use of condoms will help to keep your vagina healthy so that good bacteria, like lactobacilli, can flourish. We need to keep and maintain good bacteria and condoms can help us do so.
Keep her painless: A happy vagina should be free from pain. If you experience dryness during sex, use lubricants to make the experience smoother. Can use sex lubricants that can make your vagina very happy during sex.
Don’t let him spit in her: Using saliva as a sex lubricant could lead to vaginal infections. Saliva could upset the vagina environment to cause vaginal or yeast infections. Besides, saliva is not as slippery as lube and can easily cause tears because it dries up easily.
Let her breathe! Take off your panties! Allow your vagina to breathe. Go commando and let your vagina breathe. Don’t sleep in panties unless it’s that time of the month, which might not be practical to go ‘pantyless’.
Dress her up in cotton: Yep, your vagina needs some soft cotton around her… or nothing to breathe. So, when at home take off your panties and be in a thin cotton fabric not in granny underwear.
She is a self-cleaning oven: Ditch the soaps and douches. She doesn’t need them. Most women use scented soaps and douches because they think that their vagina smells. Experts tell us that every vagina has a unique scent, which is not offensive unless one has an infection. Your vagina cleans herself and keeps herself healthy by maintaining the correct pH balance and cleaning herself with natural secretions.
Scented soaps dry out and irritate her lips, both inner and outer labia as well as the entrance to your vagina. She likes unscented products, and warm clean water. Please stay away from intravaginal hygiene products. They can put you at risk of infections, pelvic inflammatory disease and STIs,” warns Dr Simiyu.
Dr Simiyu further states that if you are feeling a disconnect with your vagina either a sense of numbness or a lack of desire, perhaps it is time to try working with a professional. “We see nutritionists and exercise experts; why would one not consult a sexuality coach? Sometimes, it is time to take our vaginas to the shop for a tune-up! It is just healthy maintenance,” he advises.
“Remember, no one else can really love and maintain your vagina for you. And when your vagina is happy, the world is a brighter place!” Dr Simiyu says in conclusion.
