At least twenty people have been killed and over 20 others seriously injured following a road accident at Soysambu along the busy Nairobi – Nakuru highway.
The Saturday, May 13 morning accident occurred after the bus, that was headed to Bungoma, Western Kenya and was trying to overtake another vehicle, was hit from the side by a trailer before ramming into a second trailer.
Nakuru County Police Commander, Rashid Barua, said the bus belonging to Super Highway Coach was packed to capacity at the time of the accident.
The injured were rushed to St. Marys Hospital while the bodies were removed to the same hospital’s mortuary.
Eighteen people died on the spot while two others died while receiving treatment at the St. Marys Hospital.
Several others are in critical condition.
The accident created a traffic snarl up along the busy highway spreading to over five kilometres on both sides.
Police are still at the scene of the accident and investigations have since been launched.
