President Uhuru Kenyatta is currently at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), where he is expected to chair the first Azimio One Kenya Coalition council meeting.
The Head of State was accompanied by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga, Narc-Kenya’s Martha Karua and other leaders in the coalition.
Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who is a member of the council, however, arrived after the Head of State.
The council is expected to address certain key issues including Odinga’s running mate.
Kalonzo and Chama Cha Maendeleo Party Leader and Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua have since expressed interest for the position while Karua has been fronted by a section of members within the coalition.
The Nairobi County political line-up ahead of the August polls is also expected to be discussed notably after some members who are eyeing various seats in the county raised concerns of being short-changed.
This was after former Nairobi Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe is anticipated to be named Azimio candidate for the Nairobi governor’s seat.
The Informer established that the outfit has settled on candidature of Igathe and Timothy Wanyonyi for the Nairobi gubernatorial joint ticket.
However, Wiper Party is also fronting Philip Kaloki as potential deputy governor or for the post of Nairobi County Assembly Speaker.
On the other hand, the team settled on ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna as the preferred Nairobi Senatorial candidate over Maina Kamanda while Beatrice Kwamboka will be supported for the Nairobi County Woman Representative.
If Sifuna becomes the Senator, then the deputy governor position will be given to Wiper party where Kaloki will be the preferred candidate.
Effectively, Agnes Kagure and Richard Ngatia both of Jubilee Party are likely to be prevailed upon to step down.
