In a hotly-contested UDA nomination, Alfred Keter emerged top with 10,273 votes against his closest opponent Bernard Kitur’s 7,468.
Keter will be defending his seat following his victory under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Other aspirants included Robert Chepkwony (2,513 votes), Irene Chemutai (388 votes), George Tarus (425 votes), and Abraham Limo (540 votes).
The election in Nandi Hills saw Keter battle it out with “DP’s people” who were said to be supporting his closest opponent, Bernard Kitur.
The Ruto allied leaders have labeled Keter as a traitor following his several outbursts on how the second in command was handling issues in the government since 2017.
The same Ruto lieutenants had asked the MP to state where his loyalty lies and whether he was in support of a Ruto presidency.
He kept the people guessing until last month when he joined UDA. There was drama at the polling centre immediately after he was declared the winner due to a delay in issuing his nomination certificate.
Being the mobiliser, he gathered his supporters in protest of the delay.
“Some people had said that even if we win, we will not be given the interim certificate, but we are not leaving here until we have it,” he had told his supporters earlier Tuesday.
The returning officer did not explain why there was a delay in the issuance of the certificate.
The nominations which were to be conducted last week were postponed following the death of one of the aspirants in a road accident.
Keter will, on August 9, now defend his Nandi Hills seat using the UDA ticket.
