A criminal investigation department officer was on Thursday night killed by armed men with crude weapons in Thara-ini bar in Thindigua village, Kiambu while his colleague and a watchman seriously injured during a robbery.
The incident which occurred at around 2 a.m in the morning while it was raining heavily left one CID officer sustaining deep cuts on his head while the watchman suffered many cuts in his body as he had struggled to fight off the men who were armed with pangas and other crude weapons before fleeing with the bar television sets.
According to area chief George Kibugi said that the CID officers were inside the bar compound seated inside their vehicle a saloon car when the incident happened.
“The two officers were seated inside their car inside the bar compound and the watchman was manning the bar area,”said Kibugi. A resident said that they knew the officers and they usually seat in their vehicle parked at the far corner of the bar compound.
“We know the officers they usually are armed am always seat in their vehicle parked inside the bar compound,”said a customer of the bar whom did not want to be named.
Kibugi said that the body of the officer laid down the ground where he was tied on his legs and hands with a rope and had deep cuts on his head which could have led to his death.
The other officer was found tied inside the bar and had been deeply cut on his head but was still alive while the watchman also was found tied and also had cuts on his body and were rushed to hospital.
“It seemed the watchman had struggled with the thugs since we found broken beer bottles all over and was overpowered since we found him tied up and had deep cuts and on the far end of the bar we found a CID officer who had also been tied up and with cuts but they were alive unfortunately at where the officers had parked their vehicle we found a body lying there lifeless with deep cuts on the head and tied up,”said kibugi.
It was not established whether the officers were armed or whether they were on duty at the time with police officials declining to confirm the incident and give out details of the incident.
