A widow of five children in Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu County has appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto to come to her help after she was diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis condition two months ago in a private hospital.
Mary Nyambura aged 57,who has been bedridden in her Racecourse estate one bedroomed rental house for the past four year, requires urgent replacement of both hips and knees.
According to Dr Lectary Lelei, the proprietor of St Luke’s Orthpaedic and Trauma Hospital in Eldoret, the patient requires Sh1.5 million for the cost of treatment.
Lelei explained that the total knee replacement will cost Sh800,000 while hip replacement will take up Sh700,000.
The medic said the replacement of Nyambura’s joints will be done one after the other subject to availability of the required money for the operation.
Speaking at his house, Nyambura said her efforts to raise money to meet cost of treatment reached stalemate after all the people she invited on several occasion failed to turn up.
“I used to operate a booming grocery business in town but it has now collapsed since I became sick and I have been forced to rely on neighbors and other well-wishers for upkeep,” she said.
Nyambura said the medical doctors have assured her that she will be back to her normal life once her hips and knees are replaced at the hospital.
