Four people including three flower farmers died following two separate road accidents in Naivasha and its environs.
In the first incident, three flower farmers died on the spot after the vehicle there were travelling in was hit by a trailer near the Italian Catholic Church along Mai- Mahiu- Limuru road.
The three had just delivered flowers at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport when an overtaking trailer hit their vehicle head on.
According to an eye witness Joseph Njoroge, the driver of the trailer was approaching a sharp corner when he decided to overtake a fleet of vehicles resulting to the accident.
“One person was injured following the collision and was rushed to a private hospital where he is recuperating”.
Njoroge said accidents involving trailers were on the rise along the hilly section of the road adding that there is usually an incident involving them every day.
He said the accident caused a major traffic snarl up stretching over three kilometers on both sides before police arrived to control motorists.
And in the second incident, a long distance truck driver died following an accident involving two trailers at Elementaita area along the Gilgil-Nakuru highway.
According to an eye witness Bernice Wangui, the accident occurred after the driver of one of the trailers overtook another lorry and hit an oncoming truck head on.
Wangui said the driver died on the spot while the other escaped with injuries and was rushed to St Mary’s hospital in critical condition.
A senior police officer who did not want to be named confirmed both incidents saying the three bodies in the Mai Mahiu case have been taken to Naivasha County referral hospital morgue while the other one is at Gilgil Sub County hospital mortuary.
He termed as careless in both accidents adding that the two drivers who are in different hospitals will interrogated before being arraigned in court once they recover.
“The two are under police watch in the hospitals and once the doctors give them a clean bill of health we will institute various charges”.
