Tension in Baringo as bandits kill two people

Tension is high at Ng’aratuko area in Loruk, Baringo North after armed bandits allegedly from Pokot community raided the area killing two people.

The yesterday incident also left two people killed also made the bandits walk away with more than 400 goats.

While confirming the incident through a phone call, Loruk sub location Chief Samuel Kamuren said that the attack which happened yesterday saw two herders shot dead by the bandits who were targeting to steal goats from them.

“It is unfortunate that the bandits had to shot peaceful herders and making away with their livestock at the time we think sanity is coming slowly following the operation by our officers this criminals are so daring and they need to be thought a lesson of their lifetime,” said Kamuren.

The chief however noted that the locals are now living in fear of their lives since their is no response so far from the security officers who had been deployed in the area to conduct a security operation more than a month ago.

Residents are now reported fleeing their homes as they fear further attacks from the dangerous criminals who aim at disturbing peace always.

Kamuren added that they are now up in arms and they are seriously questioning the government what they are doing when people are being killed.

At the same time he accused the government for failing to carry a disarmament exercise in the entire Tiaty Sub County and flash out illegal arms in the hands of the locals despite promising to do so.

The sub chief noted that so far nothing has been done so far to disarm the bandits who are owning illegal firearms despite the government’s order to do so.

On Wednesday, in separate incidents, suspected Pokot bandits raided Arabal location making away with over 300 heads of cows at Chemorong’ion area at the same time Yatya village in Baringo North was also attacked last night by the armed raiders.

This comes a week after six people were killed at Kapedo in Baringo, Turkana border following a retaliatory attacks between Pokot and Turkana Communities living in the area.

The incident which left the six killed and scores injured was as a result of the past one week incident where one person killed in Lokori, Turkana County on Friday and unknown number of livestock driven away by suspected Pokot bandits.

According to reliable sources the bandits from Turkana community vowed to revenge the attack and yesterday they retaliated killing five in Kapedo shopping center.

According to eye witnesses the Turkana bandits came to Kapedo carrying guns in sacks before shooting indiscriminately killing five injuring three.
