Samburu County Secretary Stephen Letinina and County Executive Member for Tourism Peter Leshakwet were today charged in a Maralal court for abuse of office.

Letinina and Leshakwet are accused with using their offices to inappropriately award Africality Company a contract to manage Maralal Safari Lodge on behalf of the Samburu County government.

They were accused of committing the offence on November 1, 2014.

The duo also faced a second count of failing to comply with the applicable procedures and guidelines for tendering of contracts by allowing Africality Company to take possession of Maralal Safari Lodge when it had not been subjected to pre-qualification procedures contemplated under section 32 of the public procurement and disposal act 2005.

However, they denied the charges when they appeared before Maralal Principal Magistrate Richard Koech.
