Three mourners including a minor died following a grisly road accident along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway near KCC village in Naivasha.
Three others were seriously injured following the accident that involved a personal car and trailer heading in the opposite direction.
The trio who are family members were heading to Western Kenya for the burial of a kin when the accident occurred on Friday morning.
The accident caused a major traffic snarl-up along the busy highway before police moved in and towed away the wrecks to Naivasha police station.
According to witnesses, the accident occurred after the lorry which was heading towards Nairobi from Nakuru overtook a fleet of cars before ramming into the incoming personal car.
A witness Jane Wambui said that heavy rains pounding the area had affected visibility and caused a major jam on the busy highway.
She said that the driver of the truck was to squarely blame of the accident after he decided to overtake the vehicles despite the ongoing rains.
“The lorry hit the personal car killing two male adults on the spot while the others were rushed to hospital in critical condition,” she said.
Another witness Jennifer Muthoni said that the vehicle carrying the mourners tried evading the incoming trailer but this was not possible.
Muthoni added that on impact two of the bodies were thrown from the car while the others were trapped for some minutes in the mangled wreck.
“The accident occurred very fast and on impact the trailer lost control and landed on the side of the road leading to a massive traffic jam,” she said.
A senior police officer who declined to be named confirmed the incident adding that the minor was confirmed dead on arrival at Naivasha sub-county hospital.
The officer said that they were seeking the driver of the ill-fated lorry to record a statement adding that the wrecks had been towed to the area police station.
